Section 1 – About the Programme

Information on the programme structure of the MA(EfS) programme is available at the website (Programme Information→ “Programme Structure”).

The general duration of the full-time MA (EfS) programme is 1 year.

Students should take all major courses according to specific schedule. In the last semester of 2022/23, students were required to write a thesis under supervision of suitable supervisor, who was allocated by the department.

Section 2 – Application

The Programme Office will invite applicants who fulfill the English language requirements to attend an interview for the first priority. A conditional offer shall be given to those who do not meet the requirements upon interview performance or any other considerations. All applicants must fulfill and submit the documents before specified deadline.

To facilitate the admission process, please be reminded to upload all the required documents in your application account. In general, you should upload:

    • Final Transcript;
    • Scanned copy of your academic qualification(s);
    • English language test report(s); and
    • Other supporting document(s).

The University reserves the right to request you to apply for official transcripts (either electronic transcript or hardcopy) and / or language test reports to be sent directly to EdUHK from the issuing universities / authorities before confirming your admission offer and upon programme registration.

No. Graduates from any disciplines who have met the basic entry requirements are welcome.

Section 3 – Interview and Application Status

Interview invitations will be sent to the email address registered by the applicant in the online registration system.

This will be an online individual interview in English.

Language, communication and organizational skills will be assessed. The applicant’s understanding of the programme related knowledge and issues will also be considered.

Successful applicants will receive individual notification by email within four weeks after the interview.  You may also login your application account and check your current application status. When admission offer is made to you, your application status will be shown as “Offer Confirmed (Published)”.

 

Applicants who have not been invited for interview nor given a direct offer may still be considered if the intake quota is not filled. No individual notifications will be sent to unsuccessful or waitlisted applicants.

It normally takes 10 – 14 working days for our Finance Office to receive and verify your payment. Overseas payment via T/T remittance will take longer time. Once your payment is received and verified, your application status will be changed to “Offer Accepted”. To avoid any delay, please ensure that you have quoted your EPN number when you make a payment.

If there are any irregularities regarding your payment, the relevant department will contact you by email in due course.

Section 4 – Other Inquiries (Including Visa-related Issues and Support for non-local Students)

In case of special circumstances, non-local students who are unable to complete the programme within the normal period of study should contact the programme staff at least three months before the expiry date of their Student Visa / Entry Permit.

It could be around HKD$180,000-220,000 per year including tuition, accommodation, living and other expenses.

This information is for reference only, the actual expenditure will be subject to each applicant’s spending habits.

Graduates are welcome to participate in “National Examination for Admissions to the Civil Service” of China or any job recruitment. However, the Programme Office could only issue a document listing the programme information and course list but not verify the details and relevancy of other programmes in China. We shall not classify MA(EfS) either under “Environmental Science” or “Education” because our programme includes mixed components, and the depth of our programme in the environmental or educational parts is different from others.

Yes, the MA(EfS) is recognized worldwide. Also, the courses are taught in English, providing a solid foundation for students to study worldwide. 

Since on-campus accommodation is highly competitive, not all admitted postgraduate students can get a place. The Student Affairs Office (SAO) will provide off-campus accommodation information for reference. For details, please visit the Off-campus Accommodation Information Platform.

 

In addition, our departmental staff will provide pastoral care to students through departmental WeChat: eduhkses.

The Master of Arts in Education for Sustainability programme will offer Entrance Scholarship to new entrants who possess high standard of academic performance and intellectual qualities, demonstrate excellence in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and exhibited outstanding leadership qualities. Eligible entrants will be nominated by the Programme Leader, candidates need not apply.

Normally, a PGDE or teacher qualification certificate will be required to become a teacher in Hong Kong or the Mainland China respectively. However, graduates may be employed as contract teachers or teaching assistants upon different schools’ consideration.
